Progress, how NOT to give up on it!

Today’s word: Progress

Daily, not in one day

Bible passage: Genesis 37-50

The way I see it, becoming a leader is a lot like running a marathon. If you hope to get up one morning and run it, you are for sure going to fail. It’s what you do daily, over a long period of time that matters most. Not what you do in one day. Preparing for a marathon is a process. It takes daily disciplines to get to that place where you are able to run 26.2 miles without breaking your body.

The same goes for leadership. Lessons learned and applied over time will inevitably result in growth. Yes, it’s true that some people might be more of natural leaders but leadership is not for the select few. It’s for everyone. It’s something that can be learned and developed over time. We can see it in Joseph’s story that he didn’t become the great leader we see at the end of Genesis overnight. At the beginning of his story, we actually see that he comes across as a bit arrogant. It wasn’t enough for him to know that he was his father’s favorite but he also had to rub it in. As you read his story though you can observe the leadership process Joseph goes through and how he comes out at the end as one of the most influential characters in the Bible.

Leadership development is long term so let’s make a decision today to stick with it for life.

Pray: Father, I know that you made me a leader. A leader of my life, family and those that you entrust in my care. Help me to become the best leader that I could possibly be. And help me to stay the course and to not be afraid to go through the process of leader development daily. Amen!

I love the prayer and how it says to help me to become the best leader that “I could possibly be”. It’s so important to remember that God calls us to lead in different ways. Great post!
